electronic patient education handouts

We are "test driving" an online patient education system by Krames. Vivid pictures, easy to read (6th grade education level language), good information, many, many topics...
A little short on some self care issues, and some ER dx that are frequently seen.

Anyone else using it, or something else they like?

We are now on a 90 day free trial of "Care Notes" through Micromedex. Graphics much less vivid, and a bit less user-friendly, but good patient information. 1/3 the cost of Krames.

No one else uses these programs, huh?

At the hospital where I have clinical they use micromedex. I use it all the time when giving patients info on drugs. I like it.

I looked at the krames system, and i decided to look what is free out there downloadable in PDF format for public consumption, i found that there is an nih.gov national education program for about everything, and i downloaded it all, well a couple hundred items and they are on our public drive for staff to access...seems okay so far

We use Krames. We like it, as well as the patients find it easier to understand than the system we had before. It is also customizable... you can add things to the sheet, or take things off for a particular patient.

we use MicroMedex. I like the discharge info because you can fill in the blanks specific to each patient (if you have the time!!)

I receive patient handouts everytime I visit my neighborhood ER. They may be helpful but they generally end up in my circular file. And I doubt many other less educated patients read them. Most are accompanied with "here is an explanation of what is wrong with you". Not exactly good patient education.
