What to expect from a PCT program?

I just wanted some insight on what to expect. The one I am interested in is 10 weeks over the summer 8-4 M-Th. I just wanted to know is it a lot of hard book work? Or just a lot of common sense things? Is it fairly easy to grasp on once I get involved and start doing hands on? Thanks for all answers!

My program was for a few months. I live in louisiana and my first semester we took nursing fundamentals 1, medical terminology, A&P, professionalism, did our CNA clinicals, and some other things like a computer class. Our last semester we did Phlebotomy and EKG. For us it was a lot of reading and studying exspecially for phlebotomy and EKG because with them two classes every week we had a test ( a test monday and a test wensday). I believe if it intrest you and you study hard you will grasp it but you have to dedicate the time. No night before studying or just an hr or 2 studying you have to study some every day and for a few hours. Before the program I was in school for nursing so some of it was a little review but my teacher who is an active RN told us she was gonna have us study harder and more than we ever did in our last semester and show enough she surely did but I am glad because she was preparing all of us for our next step. Like for me to go back to school for nursing.

My PCT program was 7 weeks long and honestly that is not enough time. I can tell you if you can get into a program that is longer than 10-weeks take it. My days consisted of going to class from 12-3:30 every day and then come home and read for approximately 3-4 hrs. Wake up 5:00am and do the study questions until time for class. We only did two lab each in EKG and Phlebotomy, due to lack of time. Although I found the topics interesting, with the short period of time, the instructor did not have the time to go indepth; so you basically on your own. I pass the PCT exam, only because I decided to dedicate the 7 weeks to nothing else but that, but it was very stressful. If you can, do yourself a favor and find a longer program, go for it.

Thanks a lot for the reply! The one I'm doing is right at 10 weeks so hopefully it will be enough.
