Anyone ever work at the VA?

Nursing Students Technicians

I will have my certification in about 2 weeks...

I'm debating trying to get a CNT position at the VA so I can continue my retirement benefits... What's it like to work there??? The Nashville TN facility is not HUGE, and not sure all what I would get to do there.. Since I'm getting into the RN program in Fall I wonder if I would be better off working at a big hospital rather then the VA?

Any thoughts.

Specializes in CNA.

I got my CNA training at a VA facility and I LOVE IT!! my main Goal is to work there, But when I got my License they were not hiring :( I have already tried other places before and NOTHING IS COMPARED to the VA.. Specially the pay...$$$ at the VA is much, much better for example outside VA CNA got paid like 10-12 max per hr. At the VA the pay is $31-36K per year... do the math. Besides when you work at the VA you are automatically a FEDERAL EMPLOYEE, and this will make things easily for you in the future to get a job at any other State or Federal Hospital.. For what I have search and information I have found, It's MUCH BETTER working at a VA facility than else where... But only you can decide. Good Luck!

Thanks... I think I have a little more advantage just having been prior military... So I heard...

I'm going to apply once I get my classes done, and get my certification... I really want to work for them.. I hope I can find a position... I did see that the pay is much different..
