Just the way any viral disease is transmitted -- person to person contact, or by touching something someone with a virus has already touched, or from droplets in the air which come from a sneeze or a cough of a person who has the swine flu.

Until the CDC says I need to worry I am not going to worry. I also get flu shots yearly. No the virus is not spread by eating pork as best as I have read.

I don't think it's necessary to panic about the swine flu..that said, however, it's always a good idea to be prepared in terms of having a disaster kit available for you and your family. Emergency situations happen, be they natural disasters or illnesses, and so it is important to be prepared for such. Having food and water stored is essential in case of any of these events. Just an FYI about the flu shot.. even though you got one, the CDC even said this past flu shot does not protect against it.

To answer the OP's question, nope. We eat well, exercise and have enough "medicine" to fight the flu if needed.. I always wash my hands and keep my distance when someone is sick.

Ditto...Nebraska it is for me too. It is a great book. I'd rather it stay in fictional land, though.

I've been doing a lot of reading about this today; it seems there is a lot of concern, and the CDC/WHO is not producing much reassurance. I live in EQ country, and have, for the last 20 years, kept a goodly supply of food for me and my critters (cats and horse) on hand. I think, however, that tomorrow, when I do my regular marketing, I will look into getting a bit more on hand than I usually do.

I am pretty calm...but the stuff I'm hearing/reading isn't reassuring whatsoever.

I just watched a news video report showing Mexican soldiers handing out masks to the public on the streets of Mexico City. The soldiers were touching the inside and outside of the masks to hand to people on the street, and touching the people's hands as they were handing them out, person after person after person. Some of the soldiers had their own masks just covering their mouths, not their noses, too.

I'm not sure handing out masks touched by the germs of so many hands and only covering the mouth is going to help much?

And if you read it, get the first version, the one that was published before we knew about AIDS. That puts a whole different spin on the story.

Should anything like that happen, I wouldn't want to go to Vegas OR Boulder. I would want to be one of the people who died soon enough to be named in the story.

Edit: You can't use Veronal to dampen your dreams, however, because it's no longer on the American market.

This is VERY, VERY DANGEROUS. Ever heard of the term ARMAGEDDON? Plane flights will spread the virus at an incredible pace in the next few hours.

The Spanish flu killed 40 million in th 1900s, the HK flu about a million a few decades back. With our current population, this would translate to a nightmare.
