Who gets it? I dont know - someone brought up some anecdotal hypothetical person who gets hepb vaccines.

Anyway, I think we've exhausted all that there is to extract from this convo and I grow tired. I think we can all agree that an informed decision is the best thing to do.

So limit your own travel if you are truly concerned. Or better yet, if someone from another country who happens to have polio comes here to the US and who possibly infects one of our citizens, then maybe lets broach the topic of continued polio vaccination.

If we are basing our vaccination recs and scheduling based on hypotheticals, then well, there is a problem IMO. Lets save mass vaccinations for true emergencies.

Hysterical? Mothers like myself are hysterical because we're worried about the ingredients in vaccines being harmful? Isn't that being cautious? And protective? We're not worried they're harmful...it's a fact! Why don't you do yourself a favor and look up such chemicals as mercury, formaldehyde, aluminum and whatever else you can find depending on the vaccine. Are you talking about the devastating effects of measles, mumps or rubella? Or the MMR vaccine? Because I know plenty of moms that feel horrible because of the devastating effects the MMR had on their child....including death. So I'm glad you feel vaccines are 100% safe and you put 100% trust in the vaccine makers....I'm glad you're not hysterical. But wait....why are you arguing about the fact that everyone should be vaccinated. Who's the hysterical one? Oh and I'm wondering....since we don't vaccinate for smallpox anymore, why hasn't that come back?

What about the smallpox vaccine? By this logic, don't you think that should be on the long list of vaccines for babies?

INFORMED DECISION....that's the key!! That's what everyone should be doing! But when people go around saying and thinking that vaccines don't contain mercury and are safe an informed decision isn't going to occur. We should all question and look into what we're injecting in our bodies and our kids and decide from there. Most people look at nutritional facts on food....vaccines shouldn't be any different. And when a parent looks at these ingredients, they shouldn't be called a hysterical parent.

I'm in OH and my employer (a hospital) encourages us, but does not require us to get the seasonal flu vaccine. Since it is free of charge, I did get the flu vaccine.

I am not getting the H1N1 vaccine. It is way overhyped, I'm not pregnant, and I don't have a weakened immune system. I have enough sense to wash my hands frequently and carry hand sanitizer with me. I feel the cons outweigh the benefits at this point with the vaccine being so new. I'll let people try it out for a year or two first before I get it (if it sticks around that long).

UPDATE.

My employer has recently changed the rules. If we refuse the vaccination for any reason (religious, allergy, personal preference, etc) we are required to sign a waiver form, attend 20 hours of flu education, and wear a mask for the entire duration we are at work during flu season.

I'm not very happy about this, especially since the only version of the H1N1 vaccine we have is the nasal form which is a live virus. If I take that, I will be unable to be around my grandmother, due to a medical condition. However, I don't need 20 hours of flu education and I am not comfortable with being required to wear a mask while at work for the next few months.
