Flu mist causes shedding of virus?

I have been reading some threads that said after you receive the nasal flu mist you can shed the virus for up to 7 days. If that is true why are they giving it to our school children?? Anyone know???

Because the virus is weakened and not likely to cause illnesss in others.

In clinical studies, transmission of vaccine viruses to close contacts occurred only rarely. The current estimated risk of getting infected with vaccine virus after close contact with a person vaccinated with the nasal-spray flu vaccine is low (0.6%-2.4%). Because the viruses are weakened, infection is unlikely to result in influenza illness symptoms since the vaccine viruses have not been shown change into typical or naturally occurring influenza viruses.

Well, it's not really a problem for the person who received the vaccine, but for those unvaccinated people around them (if they are susceptible and unlucky). The rate of transmission is 0.6-2.4% according to CDC.

If they caught H1N1, they'd be shedding virus a lot worse than the live attenuated version!
