This is what is happening in China, to stop the spread of H1N1. They say it may have worked....... If it did, you can expect more mandatory vaccination happening here, schools closing, businesses closed, and no movie theaters open, no trips to the supermarket, or travel anywhere!

If doing that could save the lives of one mother and baby, would all that be worth it to you?

It would be to me. You can't morally put a price on lives, especially those of unborn babies, so get the vaccine, folks, before you have the one for seasonal flu, as it's been shown statistically in Canada, with 2,000 people that H1N1 flu frequently occurs after someone gets the seasonal flu vaccine. There's plenty of time before seasonal flu gets here in late Dec., Jan., Feb., and March. I got the seasonal flu vaccine at the beginning of September, and then got what appeared to be H1N1 flu a month or so later - for the second time. Anecdotal I know, and the whole story of the statistics being assembled now, will be known next year.

This is something that will present greater impact on people vulnerable to these infectious organisms, hospitals and care providers, making the situation today with H1N1 look like less than the tip of an iceberg.

We need to put aside the resistence to being told to do it and avail ourselves of vaccination against H1N1, then seasonal flu; and promote it for others, as we never have before. That could prevent greater loss of life that will happen, when/if H5N1 becomes entwined with H1N1. Fatalities with H5N1 are much higher than H1N1 in the countries were it's prevalent, especially for very young children.

I've never been a fear monger before, but the feeling that this time is precious for prevention of contagious type A flus has never been greater, for me. We need also to avoid crowded situations, have enough chicken soup/comfort food, jello, fruit, and juice in the freezer for your whole families, etc so we don't have to shop while ill.

More markets and pharmacies need to deliver medications and food to homes, so those infected will stay there, and of course have the TV servers and other utilities paid up in preparation for the possibility of having to stay home.

It's unfortunate that so many "backs got up" when officious administrators put forth mandatory declarations. That aside now, we need to face facts and protect ourselves and others! New findings show that the highest fatality rate due to H1N1, is seniors. That group hasn't demonstrated the anticipated protection through earlier exposure to it.

Don't know if that will ever come about. The quote is from the Vietnamese. Clearly
all of the countries where H5N1 is endemic are worried about that possibility as
are some virolgists in the western world also, although we don't hear it spoken of as
much.

I know they are concerned in Hong Kong, and the Egyptians slaughtered all those
pigs not just because of swine flu. Margaret Chan of the WHO had also said that no
one knows how H5N1 will behave under pressure of a pandemic virus. Things could
get more interesting but we already have enough on our plates...

Yes, vaccination is a very wise idea for even if the virus mutates, which of course it
will, it may offer protection against a fatal outcome even if infected.
