Peters was 10 years old and a fifth grade at the school. He died in late October.

I thank you for posting all of these cases. One thing I'm have been shocked by is how quickly H1N1 is attacking our children. I cannot get the H1N1 vaccine in my area. One of my sons is on a "secondary priority list" due to history of asthma. My children (19,16 & 13) have not had their seasonal flu shot. They have never had one. Which tells me they have antibodies already to the seasonal flu. Why are they telling people to get it if it doesn't help the H1N1 strain? I'm wondering if any of these children that died from H1N1 had their seasonal flu vaccine? Thank you

Kids still do get seasonal flu although it is the elderly or the very young that tend to have severe cases. With that said, let me show you why the seasonal shot is still a good idea for your kids. Please keep in mind that the original links to the media articles are no longer working for some of these cases. I had to use information archived at the various flu forums for cases that I remembered reading about.

This case is from April 2007. This girl's parents did everything right. She got rapid tx with Tamiflu, and she still died. The ID docs in Boston asked the parents if their daughter had been exposed to birds. She had of course since she was a lacrosse player. As everyone in New England knows, the lacrosse fields are covered with Canadian geese when the kids are not using them...

Jennifer Kats, the wife of 54-year-old Leon Kats, says Leon went to Moncrief Army Hospital at Fort Jackson last Wednesday, Oct. 28, because he wasn't feeling well. He was coughing and had a fever. She says doctors there diagnosed him with pneumonia, and he got rapidly worse.

On Friday, he went to Palmetto Health Richland. By Saturday morning, he was in intensive care and on a respirator.
Jennifer says her husband Leon passed away Wednesday night at 11pm at Palmetto Health Richland.

Jennifer Kats said as far as she knew, Leon had no underlying medical conditions that could have contributed to his death.
