I work night shift at a level 1 trauma center. 3 ( 12's a week Sunday-Fri).
My manager and I just got into this debate and basically I'm not allowed to take call anymore? She says its unsafe to work that much. Mind you even when I'm on all every night of the week I've never worked more than 50 hours in one week.
I stay up all night and sleep during the day even on my days off.
My co-workers love me because I take their call. I can't imagine having to work day shift and then stress about wether or not you are going to get sleep.
I wasn't going to sit there and argue with my manager about how its actually more safe for me to be on call because she's the boss. I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions? She said she thinks there is a policy that says you can only work 48 hrs in one week ( yeah right that'd be crazy and even if there is then does that mean that everyone who clumps their call together in a week needs to change it)?
I truly like being on call. I sit at home playing video games or cleaning and it takes me 15 minutes to get to work. I like coming in to recover a patient spending 2 hrs here going home enjoying the rest of my night.
