Are all pacu nurses expected to be on call?

depends on where you work/ how busy the hospital is. but, for the most part i believe so

Generally yes. The more nurses you have in the call pool the less call you have to take. Expect to have weekend call and evening/night call occasionally to often(depends on the situation). It is expected unless you have 24 hour coverage in house at all times and then you still may have a call team for backup.

in a hospital setting most likely in a day surgery center no.

At our hospital we do a week of call at a time we work 12 hours and then are on call from 9pm-7am monday through friday night we get paid for 40 hours and if it's over 40 then time and a half. There are 16 of us so it's once every 16 weeks. we have night shift coverage mon-thurs as of yet the only time anyone had gotten called in has been on Friday night...I did mine 2 weeks ago and worked for 3 hours on Friday plus my 12.

I would do permanant call if they would let me...we also do weekend call and as of right now we are doing 3 twelve hour shifts every 6 weeks

I work 3rd shift so I am the 1st call but I have a back up that rotates a different RN each night of the week. We have to take turns for the weekends. I usually pull the Sunday night 3rd shift call, voluntarily, 1) because I like the money, & 2) that way the day RN's come in bright eyed monday morning. I am required to pull NO call since I am 3rd shift. The day/evening RN's are required to pull. It evens out. The money is good. At least I think so.

Yes,to work in our PACU,everyone does call. Of course the full timers work more call than someone .6 like myself. FT call is ~ once a week. You are free to give your call away -there is often someone wanting to pick up extra (it's 1 1/2 - 2 times regular hourly rate).

Our call is only 2300-0700.And on holidays, the 1100-1900 shift is on call only (on weekends,it's a regular shift)
