I'm trying to think of a fresh idea for an inservice in October. Something besides the usual handwashing, you know! If anyone has presented a topic that sparked a lot of interest please share! I'll continue to brainstorm also. Hope everyone has an awesome week!

I'm not sure what your PACU is like, ours in a small community hospital an the majority of our patients come to us pretty stable. We are all ACLS and PALS certified - but I'd love to see mock codes done - because it's something we rarely see.

How about another rarity but deadly possibility, Malignant Hyperthermia.

Can always do an inservice on improving communication between caregivers.

That's my :twocents:

I recently read Better: A Surgeon's Notes on Performance, written by Atul Gawande, a surgeon at Brigham and Women's Hospital.

Each chapter could be used as a springboard for inservices, beginning with handwashing!

He presents a few trials undertaken by hospitals in an effort to improve their infection stats, the results of those trials/changes and some follow-up.

The whole book was fascinating and inspiring reading, especially the handwashing chapter.

Just a suggestion! Good luck!
