CHOA (Egleston) in Atlanta

Specialties PACU

Hello! I am an RN with just over three years experience on a busy postop floor for ortho, neuro, and uro adult patients in Augusta. I am in the interview process for a PACU day surgery position for CHOA. I have had two interviews with two different recruiters and have an interview in person next week.

I found out tonight that they require a PREP test based on peds. I will need to cram, because I definitely don't remember much about peds from school. Any suggestions??

I applied for this job in the beginning of December. The first recruiter called within two or three days. Then it was a couple of weeks before I heard from the next. I know the holidays are delaying things a bit right now, but should I be concerned this is taking so long?

Also, I am worried about finances. I have been able to pay off one student loan, and I am about to pay off a second. I am still paying over $600/mo on student loans alone. That said, I am currently working nights. This is for day surgery. I know cost of living is higher in Atlanta. From what I have researched, Atlanta salaries do partially compensate (literally) for this but not fully. Does anyone know if CHOA has sign-on bonuses? I did find an apartment I'm interested in looking at if I'm offered the job. This would put me about 15 minutes from Egleston (granted, this is probably without traffic), so I would be a lot closer to work than most places.

I did see they do have relocation packages. Is that something I ask about? Or would they bring this up? Does anyone know apartments near Egleston that offer discounts for nurses or certain hospitals?

I know I am asking for A LOT of information, but I'd be so grateful for the help! Thank you so much! I would really, really love to be offered this job! I do need all the details to align, though!

Congratulations, I worked for CHOA for years but had to move but I am looking to return soon. CHOA is a great company to work for. That peds test that you have to take is pretty hard especially for someone that is not familiar with peds. Good luck and I hope you do well.

As far as pay goes CHOA does pay decent but to be truthful if you'd like to pay off your student loans you may need a second job. Night shift differential is about $4.5 which would definitely help you pay your loans sooner but I see that you will be working day shift. If you are willing to commute you can find really inexpensive apartment in a great area but further way like 30 min but traffic will be an issue. If you are already content with the area you picked I think overtime is your only option. I have not known CHOA to offer sign on bonuses but maybe you will get lucky. I wish you the best of luck.
