Good luck on your test! And the only suggestions I have are really study the science portion and know some basic vocab for electricity, as well as some basic vocab for the science. As far as parking for the test you are allowed to park in the AAA lot across the street just make sure when you leave the test you tell the guard that's where you parked and he will give you a token to get out. For traffic what time is your test? At times traffic isn't a problem but at others it could be. And also where are you from? Since you mentioned you weren't from Pittsburgh.

Ok well Natalie just called me back and she has no idea why I don't have my results but I verified who I was and she just gave them to me over the phone. And I am happy to report that I passed! Although it was just barely but I don't care hopefully it was good enough. I got:

Science:77
Reading:98
Math: 96
Vocab:92

So now I can get everything finished and sent in.

Thumbs up Re: UPMC Shadyside 2010 hopefuls
Glad to hear that you passed! I guess now it is a waiting game It seems most people found the science to be difficult, so I will try to pay close attention to that, and I am glad that I decided to study that last. Did the other sections seem pretty easy and straightforward? I am anxious to take the test, and I hope I do well. It's been awhile since I've been in school.

Congrats kbm318!!! thats awesome! im glad she gave them to you. when are you hoping to send in your app?

As for the PSB Sharawnd, ya id say the other sections were pretty strait forward. I used the Arco book to study from and felt the math questions were not as long or intense as they are in the practice tests they offer. I personally was really scared of the reading comprehension section because I have always struggled with that, so for the two weeks while I was waiting for my scores that was the score I was worried about seeing but it really is strait forward as long as you take the practice tests offered in the ARCO book and know what sort of answers they are looking for. I also used the NET study guide to practice my reading comp and math. I found it to be a great resource, its a small book so its not as intimidating and I think I payed 15$ for it on amazon. Now that I think about it those are the two sections I got 99% on too so I guess id definitely recommend that book!! I know alot of people mention this before in other threads but I do remember having to convert temp so make sure you know that equation. The most time restraining portion for me was the reading comp, the other sections are rushed but most people seemed to finish early. hope that helps let me know if you want any more info. good luck studying!

I have the Barron's Study Guide and the Petersen's Study Guide. I just purchased both books that they recommended on the website. I didn't know about the ARCO book. I am hoping that I can answer the math portion of questions in enough time, because based on the practice test time limits I have been doing, I haven't been fast enough to finish, especially for the word problems. Was there quantitative comparison on the test? Like which one was greater: Column A or Column B? I need to work on that too.

nope they eliminated that comparison section. I totally know what you are talking about tho with those math problems it took me the whole allotted time just to read the questions!!! I don't remember them being that long at all. I still had a few minutes at the end to go back and redo a few problems and check my answers. I heard people talking about other books as well on this site but didnt feel like spending a fortune on all of them. The ARCO book is the peterson book so you should be good to go, also the ARCO is super intense so if you are somewhat confident in yourself after that you should be golden.

Thanks! I think I'm going to try and send it in by the middle of next week. I still have a recommendation to get back and finish up my essay. So hopefully Tuesday or Wednesday at the latest, then just however it takes the school's to send my transcripts for my application to be complete.

When you think you will have your app sent in?

That's good to know, because I totally bombed the comparisions section on the practice tests...I did pretty well in the other sections of the math sections, but like a said, it did take longer than anticipated. Perhaps they make it difficult so that whenever you take the actual exam you're more than prepared. Why is there two different names for the ARCO/Peterson's book? Just curious.

I wrote my essay awhile ago. I already knew what I wanted to say. I was just honest and articulate about why I wanted to be a nurse, why I like Shadyside Nursing School, and what events led me to where I am today. I didn't want it to be too long, I'm sure that they get bored reading long essays, and they have so many to read, you wanna be to the point and thoughtful at the same time.
