WOW!!!!! I watched with mouth wide open, just amazed! Am looking at 2 total replacements. Not optional - absolutely needed.

Gave me a better appreciation of what the actual surgery is.

To OP - STAY ACTIVE! It'll help to keep your weight down and your knees flexible. Just be running smart!

Great information! I'm scheduled for right knee replacement 10/28. I love watching surgery & would love to stay awake & watch mine but they won't let me! I'm having the minimally invasive procedure with the prosthesis that's custom made & is supposed to last 30 years. I've been in so much pain because everything is destroyed in that knee from my RA that I'm actually looking forward to the replacement.

I observed bilateral TKR during my 2nd semester. That experience has really helped at times when caring for my ortho pts, especially when they are wondering why they have pain in their thigh. They don't realize how much ROM is performed during the procedure, maybe a little more than they have been used to. The surgeon I observed also used a computerized system (I don't recall what it was called). They inserted small pins below & above the knee which digitally tracked the ROM. They put the knee through movements prior to incision for a baseline of the pt's own knee & then later as they proceeded with the prosthesis. Very cool!

I'm a scrub tech in an Orthopedic OR and trust me, you do not want to be awake for that surgery!

this is amazing but we dont want to do bilateral repacement because this is very hard for patient(S) (usually) very dangerous for embolism and finally long operation time very risky for infections but its not wrong
