Tfn??

Hi Ortho Nurses--Here's hoping you can help me figure this one out.

I work in sub-acute/rehab within a SNF, and I admitted a pt on Friday who was s/p a L hip fracture, for which she had a TFN done...my co-workers & I couldn't figure out what this stood for--didn't see it spelled out in any of the documentation sent over from the hospital. I was hoping one of you may know---she does have two small incisions with staples to her hip. Is this similar to an ORIF? I'd appreciate any help you can offer.

Katie

I've seen Trochanteric Fixation Nail as TFN. I think that's a brand name (Synthes I think) though so I would say hip nailing if that is what your patient had. Why not call the doc and ask if that is what it is?

Thanks...I actually don't have the pt anymore, but I think the nurse who does got the clarification from the doc. I was just curious.
