Are you home health or in a rehab? There's usually enough give to get the staple remover prongs under the staple-gently. First I'd have steri stips on hand in case there is dehiscence. I guess you will need an order for the steri strips and perhaps benzoin to make them stick better (but some doctors hate both so cover your self.)
Then remove every other staple to see if the staple line holds. If not-STOP and call the doctor. I've seen staples that have been left in for ages with no harm except for appearance.
