We are having a lot of surgical site infections on our floor right now. I am wondering if any other ortho floor is experiencing this where they are? Either that or they have just come back all at once coincidentally. Some are MRSA and some aren't. I'm wondering what is going on? It concerns me a little. Can anyone relate out there? :banghead:

Have infection control done a swab of the area to see if there is a "Hot spot". Are your usual procedures in wound dressing being followed etc etc.Have they changed anything in the operating theatre such as different disinfectants to maybe let infection in?

Absolutely get Infection Control in on it. It could be anything from A to Z. No need in speculating. They need to find the origin-and quick. Meanwhile wash those hands and wear those gloves.

i have questioned our wound nurse, cuz lately we have had quite a few pt's coming back with hardware infects. coming back for I & D's and replacements. i was told it was the way the MD's are doing their procedures. its like these ppl are coming back a couple months after. very strange......
