Activity with P.E. or clot

  1. 0 Question....When a patient has a P.E. or a blood clot, do you keep them on bedrest? I have always been taught that with both they are kept on bedrest but then I was told current trend was that they could be mobile. And if on bedrest, would the patient continue therapy (physical therapy, CPM)? What are your thoughts? Thanks.

I can't really say from an Ortho post-op perspective, but I personally had a DVT/PE and had no restriction on mobility. 12 hour hospital stay because I was tachycardic and then home the next morning on lovenox and coumadin. I would say generally (although it hasn't happened recently) for PEs activity is considered as tolerated based on their respiratory function. I can't remember the last time we had a DVT.
