OHSU admission and alternative schooling

U.S.A. Oregon

Published

Hey guys,

I'm currently in Ivy Tech's Nursing Program in Indiana, but am currently eyeing some prospective programs over in OHSU. I was wondering what kind of test scores I should be aiming for when applying to OHSU, and how the BSN program works over there?

In addition, I heard there is a hiring freeze in the Portland area. Is that just for Portland, or is it Oregon as a whole? Are there other schools I should be checking out for a nice BSN program in Oregon, as well?

Oregon has been hovering around 12-13% unemployment for a few months. We were firmly the 2nd highest unemployment rate in the country for several months and recently moved to #3 - not because the unemployment rate went down but because another State went up.

Jobs are scarce and many hospitals do have hiring freezes in that they are filling open positions only. New grad programs have been scaled back and the majority of (acute care) positions I've seen say either BSN preferred or experience required.

It's a tough place to be a nurse, especially a new nurse looking for a job right now but could change a year or 2 down the road.
