OHSU ABSN 2013 Applicants

U.S.A. Oregon

Published

I didn't see a thread.....although it is quite early yet for some to be thinking about the upcoming application session. I am a senior at Marylhurst/PCC, will be graduating Spring 2013 and applying to OHSU, Duke, and John Hopkins this Fall.

Anyone current students that have advice? Anyone who just applied have any tips for the application? Anyone else applying?

Good Luck to those taking Summer courses!

i'm so sorry for your loss

I agree with dkmamato3, I am sure they took you off of the list for the 3 year because you're on the list for the ABSN program :)

I hope that is the case :) I have had a heartbreakingly challenging month (finals, my mom passed away, and anxious over applications) so good news is more than welcomed!

When I spoke to admissions today to clarify which program the e-mail was for, they did say it would be after April 8, probably around the 15th before letters went out.

So sorry for your loss ... I hope lots of great memories are warming your heart when you need it.

....and sounds like we have more waiting to do .. ;-)

I too got an email about 5 days ago stating that my application wasn't going on to the second round. I have a 4.0 in all my pre-reqs, but no volunteer experience. It's somewhat comforting to hear other people saying that they got the same e-mail...but I wish everyone well in any case.

Ariana--I also got the same email. 4.0 in my pre reqs, various international medical volunteer experience assisting in surgeries and translating in medical clinics, CNA certified, I'M SO DISCOURAGED! Their message was such a low blow too, "it is highly unlikely that your file will be chosen for review," lol it felt more like a slap in the face than anything. Did you apply anywhere else?

Wow, the message really said that?! That is really discouraging! I hope another program recognizes your talents. What was your undergrad. GPA?

I got the same email... "it is highly unlikely that your file will be chosen for review". I thought they could have worded that email differently, low blow indeed. I got accepted back in February into an Entry Level MSN program in Washington, so I wouldn't have gone to OHSU even if I got in. It all worked out for me. I wish everyone luck with their schooling. :)

I called today to get a better idea about decision dates. The woman at the admissions office that I spoke to, said that they will send out notifications in "Mid-April." She couldn't give me anything more specific. I am going stir-crazy here!

Yeah, lol they definitely could have worded it better...and there were numerous typos in the letter as well. Funny that such a highly regarded, top ranked program would send something out without proof reading. But I'm just being bitter . My undergrad GPA wasn't the greatest, I have a 3.54 so that definitely did not help.

I was just accepted into George Washington University this morning though, so for the rest of you who didn't get into OHSU's accelerated program, I would definitely recommend checking out GWU's. The application process is through NursingCAS and they seem to really focus on other factors besides your GPA. I'm pretty sure they have a spring cohort too so you can probably apply right around now if you're interested!

Good luck!!!:)

And Congrats SarahK, that's great news!! Good luck to you!!

I receive an email stating that I most likely wouldn't be accepted. It just said that they weren't going to be advancing my application on other final round of decision making but that it wasn't an official rejection until I receive a letter (April 15th). It's nice to know, I guess... Still disappointing though :-(

I did get accepted to two other schools but they are out of state and I was hoping to stay local. Still waiting on Linfield though, fingers crossed! Anyone else apply to Linfiled's ABSN program too?

that's odd that they are sending out emails even though it isn't an official notice. But since it's not official there is still hope :) But congratulations on getting accepted to two other schools! That's great!

I applied to Linfield's ABSN program as well

Have you heard anything from them along the whole application process? I don't remember receiving anything from them, I hope I'm not the only one :/

Would you mind posting the exact wording of the email? I'm curious if they are sending out another round of emails, or if that was part of the first round sent out last week. It would be much appreciated.

And congratulations on you acceptance to two other schools! That's quite the accomplishment!
