LPN Program at Pioneer Pacific College

I am in the LPN program at Pioneer Pacific College. I just finished my fourth term and getting ready to start my preceptorship. The concensius among alot of my classmates and I is that the program was not as challenging as most nursing programs are, and that it was not as organized as we thougt it should be and lacked in clinical skills time. You only get five days a term to spend at a clinical site and lab is an hour or two twice a week. I have been a CNA for a longtime as were alot of my classmates, it helped me alot to have the background. I felt comfortable and ready to take on pts. But it made me quite nervous to see people who didnt have the background out on clinicals. I dont feel they were ready to take on pts and didnt get enough training prior to starting the first round of clinicals. Plus if you are a student who is planning on going on for your RN, the credits from this school do not transfer. The program just teaches you enough so you are eligible to sit for states NCLEX exam. You can transfer your license to a RN program but not the classes. I fortunately had all my pre reqs for my RN prior to starting this program and I am going to bridge into an LPN to RN program somewhere. Well I hope you find this information usefull and remember research it for your self dont just take what I am telling you, look into it and make sure it is really what you want and make up your own mind. Thanks for all the information. Can you please elaborate on your statement: You can transfer your license to a RN program but not the classes. I fortunately had all my pre reqs for my RN prior to starting this program and I am going to bridge into an LPN to RN program somewhere.

I am presently taking prereqs to get into a RN program at a community college near me. Are you telling me that if I finish these prereqs plus take Pioneer's LPN program I can then get into an LPN to RN program?

Their A & P is required at Pioneer Pacific, but does not transfer as a prerequisite to any of the RN programs.

The program itself is easy.

I was fortunate to land a hospital job, am finishing my pre-reqs to get into the lpn-rn bridge program at the local community college.

Depending on where you plan to go to RN school you must do all of their required pre-reqs and have 1000 hours of time working as an lpn to apply. For me it was a great, yet expensive, option..

To ellaborate on what I said before about transfering your license. Pioneer Pacific College is a Private college, which is accredited but not acknowledged at this time by other university's or community colleges in the state of oregon. It is a program that makes you eligible to to sit for the state boards exam. The class credits are not high enough here, meaning if you were to go to a community college program the classes would be hardier and the college credits would be higher so this is why I was told that the other colleges dont except them. But if you pass your state boards exam and are a LPN you can start an LPN to RN program and use your pre reqs that you already have from the other schools you have attended. If you didnt have pre reqs from somewhere else you would have to go back to school at a community college or university and do the pre reqs first before and LPN to RN program would except you. Once the pre reqs are all done and you have your LPN then you are eligible to enter the second year of an RN program. LPN program is just basically your first year of an RN program which normally is two years after all pre reqs. Now I have been told of two colleges that might take the college credits from pioneer pacific, but it is up to them to decide it case by case basis. Lower Columbia College in Longview, WA and Excelsior College which you can find information about online. I am interested in Lower Columbia college because you have two ways of entering their program, you can there program with the tradition in class room option or you can get your license and then work a thousand hours and take their online program and then go there for the clinicals. I know that several of Pioneer Pacific College students have transfered there with success. I hope this information is helpfull and let me know if you have anymore questions. GOOD LUCK!!!

Excelsior only waives one exam if you have an LPN license.They do not accept classes that were completed thru Pioneer, Apollo etc. I'm going this route and I took all my science, psych, and math at a cc prior to LPN program but had to retake sociology and a humanities class to get ADN.

iam also looking into getting in pioneer college for lpn. i want to be a RN. can you just do online lpn to rn program? i also talked to someone at the college and they had said it does transfer. can someone please let me know
