Applicants to Portland area schools 2013

U.S.A. Oregon

Published

Hello everyone! I was an avid reader of last years articles on applying to schools here, and it really helped me get an idea of how many points I would need. I thought I'd return the favor. So far I've only applied at PCC with 54.5 points (I think). For some reason, I'm not getting any discretionary points at Chemeketa and very few at Mt. Hood, so I might just forgo them this year. Is it just me or are schools going to a model where you can only really have a chance if you take the prereqs there? Anyways, good luck everyone!!!!

Did they tell you where you were at on the list? I haven't declined yet :-/ I should get financial aid info this week from OHSU and once I know that's all good, ill call pcc right away!

No. I am #33 on the list, or at least I was when we were all notified. If you are #27 and you decline then #28 gets in, if they haven't already. But PCC would not give me any details. The email simply said the waitlist has stalled. So I know there are at most 5 people ahead of me, 4 after you decline.

Hey!!!! I'm so excited you attempted to message me haha! I couldn't find a group on Facebook or a group dedicated to OHSU Portland campus on here so I haven't talked to anyone yet! How many people are in the cohort? 20-25?? I'm bummed orientation isn't until sept 24th! That seems so long and I really wanted to touch base with people first. Lol are you in Portland or from somewhere else?

Hey guys, I'm going to be at the Monmouth campus. A classmate started a thread on AN and we created a fb page from there we have close to half our cohort on there now! If someone hasn't started a AN thread it might be a great way to connect with other OHSU Portland students!!! Good luck, and congrats!

Simonpier-This is from the PCC class of 2015 forum just the other day. Looks like number 32 was called so you could be next!

This has been a very important blog and I think also put a line or two. Finally got accepted to the Program. I was waitlist number 32 and today am in yay! I got accepted in TX and was planning on moving by end of this month but luckily I don't have to deal with all that moving stuff anymore but rather tackle the task on hand..

I'm going to start research on buying text books starting this week and planing to go as cheap as I can.Good luck to everyone..

Hi! I've been trying to find people who will be attending the nursing program at OHSU PDX this coming fall! There's only going to be 24 of us and it would be nice to get to know all of you before the orientation in September. =) PS congrats to everyone who got into nursing school!!!

thank you so much for that info! Wow, now I'm actually starting to allow myself a little hope!

Hello tenzen, I'll be attending OHSU PDX Fall '13. Are you talking about the traditional BS Ocne or the accelerated one? 24 seems to be a low number of students IMO. I'm doing the trad. 3 year program. And yes, congrats to everyone who got accepted to their nursing schools!

Hey there! I made a thread on the nursing program forum for our cohort. I'll also get a Facebook page going this evening.

I am in Portland. We're looking for a rental near the hill. We have one that looks promising and we were the first applicants for it, so my fingers are crossed!

Hey Claireclaire!

Congrats to us for getting into ohsupdx! I'll be going to the traditional program as well! and yes, 24 does sound like a low number but please keep in mind that I was basing that off of this information I found at the OSHU website for last year: Undergraduate Programs - OHSU School of Nursing -Â Undergraduate Home

They may have added more spots for 2013, but I guess we won't really know until we all see each other on the 24th! :)

I am waiting for the facebook page so that we can all easily connect and start exchanging tips! I know the class will be so vigorous and I really want to be prepared. :p :) I am sooooooo excited to start!!!!

Congrats all on getting in your respective programs. FYI for those of you going into the three year OHSU-PDX program, yes there are only 24 of you in the cohort - and by the end of the first term you will know each other quite well and many of them will be like your second family. Also, I believe there is one significant change for the OCNE programs starting in the fall (at least for OHSU). They are moving Pathophysiology to the first term along with your intro Health Promotions class. So your first year's schedule will be something like Fall: Health Prom, Pathophys - Winter: Pathophys 2, Pharm 1, and Chronic I - Spring: Pharm 2, and Acute 1. They moved Pathophys up to balance out the load of the terms a bit more, and provide a better foundation for when you take Pharm. Sadly if the prior two cohorts are any indication, you won't get Linda Felver for your Pharm/Patho instruction. Hopefully you will get Kris Weymann for Patho - she is very, very good. Pharm on the other hand, has had a string of fairly weak instruction - they have a hard time finding people who want to teach the class. But, you can make it through - as frustrating as it might be at times. :) I am a second year OCNE student, so if you have any questions about the OHSU program let me know. Enjoy your remaining free time for the next couple months, you won't have much more of that for a few months. :)

Hello! Facebook page for OHSU Fall 2013 3 year BSN (class of 2016) is:

OHSU School of Nursing -Portland BSN Class of 2016.

Please please let me know if you want it to be more or less private. I have never made a page before and there are so many settings to choose from!

Hi osuchris!

Thanks for the lovely advice to relax. I've been watching a lot of youtube videos created by many other nursing students/graduates and that seems to be the recurring theme for "advice to the upcoming nursing student"! :)) If you all say it, then we all ought to be doing it then. haha! Seriously though, when I come to school in the fall I wanna make sure my A&P knowledge is as sharp as it was when I was about to take my finals for it. :)) Do you have any other tips?
