Applicants to PDX area Nursing Schools 2010

U.S.A. Oregon

Published

Hi fellow applicants for 2010!!

I wanted to start a thread for all of us who are applying to various nursing schools in the area for 2010. I have applied to five different places: OHSU-Monmouth, University of Portland, Portland Community College, The University of Washington, and Boise State University. I wanted to cover myself and hopefully ensure that I would get in somewhere. I have a really good GPA and experience as an EMT-Basic so I am hoping that that will help my chances.

Just waiting it out until they send out notifications.....I just want to hear back!!! :banghead:

Good luck to everyone who applied!

Actually I think it's Clackamas that does the interview, PCC takes the top 150 and has them do a proctored essay.

This is from their website:

Proctored Essay: After all applications are evaluated based on the initial 70 points, the top 150 applicants will be asked to participate in a proctored essay. Up to 30 points will be awarded for the proctored essay based on a shared OCNE criteria/scoring rubric. The essay questions will not be based on any specific prerequisites or other courses, but will address general factors such as personal values, diversity, communication and critical thinking skills, motivational fitness, tolerance for stress and transferable skills.

Update: The proctored essay session will occur on at the Sylvania campus of Portland Community College on Tuesday, April 27th and Thursday, April 29th. Students will be assigned to attend one of the offered dates if invited to the essay. Invitations will not be mailed until the phase one evaluations are complete.

What I'm wondering is if they really get the 800 applicants every year that they claim they do.....

Specializes in Pediatrics.

When I applied, they gave out the stats, and there were 1011 applicants for the 100 spots. I know when I spoke with the 1st year instructors last year, they were no to thrilled with the idea of doing interviews as they would be the one doing them. They said that the interviews would take to long.

Hello All,

I was wondering if anyone knows a more exact date as to when U of P is going to sent out their letters. I got an email a while back saying early March, but I was just wondering is anyone know anything else! I'm getting anxious!!!:uhoh3:

I called them the other day and they said decisions have been made and they hope to mail letters in the next week or two.

Deasiac,

Thank you so much for letting me know! Did they tell you approximately how many people they were accepting? Good luck I hope you get accepted!!!:)

Hello again,

I was just wanted to see if anyone else applied to Linfield and if you have, have you received an email informing you they have received your application?

I applied to Linfield, and I did receive an email stating that all my materials had been received.

Hi Apdxstudent,

If you don't mind me asking when did you turn in your application and how long did it take for them to reply with the email. I submitted my application online on January 26 and I hand delivered my transcripts and stuff on January 29th. So I know the information made it there. I called the last two Mondays to checked the status and they keep telling me we will send you an email when we get to your application. I guess I'm just getting anxious.

Hi lady143,

I hand delivered all my materials (besides the online stuff of course) on Jan. 26th, and received an email on Jan 27th. I was pretty surprised that they got back to me so soon. It may be that I got my stuff in before the mad rush as the deadline approached. I spoke to a gal at Linfield a week ago and she said they haven't finished sorting through all the applications (and I am sure there were a lot of them), so I wouldn't worry yet.

Hi Apdxstudent,

Thanks for letting me know. I just need to hang tight. Good Luck and I hope you get accepted!:)

Hi! Sounds like I am in the same boat as many of you...waiting! I applied at PCC and MHCC this year. Keeping my fingers crossed for an interview. For those of you who are applying at community colleges do you know approx how many points you have? I should be about a 55 but I'm not sure if that's going to be good enough. Does anyone know?

Good luck to everyone!

I also applied to PCC and also have exactly 55 pts. I did not yet have the work experience and was taking my last A & P this term so I didn't get all the credits done points. If not this year, next year I'll have the work experience and everything finished. I hope 55 is enough to get invited to the essay in April. We'll wait with fingers crossed!
