Applicants to Portland area schools 2011

U.S.A. Oregon

How's everyone doing with their Apps?

I applied to MHCC, CCC, PCC and Linfield.

It's my first year applying and I'm a nervous wreck!!!

How long does it usually take to hear whether or not you got an interview?

I was glad to see CCC changed their deadline to Feb 15th like the other OCNE schools-I think it'll make the waiting more bearable!

Anyone else want to share points to see how tight the competition is this year?

Other than Mt. Hood, I don't get too many discretionary points. :(

Heres what I *think* I have (figuring them myself):

MHCC-63 points

CCC-50 or 51 points depending on how they round up your gpa

PCC-54 points

Good luck everyone!!!

Let the nail biting, stalking the mailbox begin! :lol2:

Specializes in Med Surg, Home Health.

I had the acceptance notification week for OHSU posted on my calendar as next week and was counting down the days, then just heard that in previous years OHSU has delayed sending out acceptance letters for up to 1 month after the date given on the website.

I've applied to OHSU and Linfield accelerated. Have a BA in "Would You Like Fries With That?" from 10 years ago. Have been a CNA for 2 years, a med aide for a year and a half, have 3.82 cumulative GPA, and 4.0 prerequisite GPA.

Have no idea how I'm going to pay for all this. I mean, clearly, I'll be going into debt, but federal loans won't cover it, savings won't cover what's left, I own no property to speak of, and need a co-signer for private loans. Filled out Oregon Student Assistance Commission's form, applied for several school-based scholarships, crossing my fingers and praying.

I suspect we'll see a flood of :D and :crying2: in the next week or so. Honestly, I had completely forgotten about it until a friend asked me yesterday. I'm so busy with other things in my life at the moment. Maybe that's a good thing. All I know is that I fall in line with the stats of those accepted to PCC for 2010.

I got a letter about OHSU accelerated BS yesterday--wait list. Eh. Said we might get offers as late as the week before class starts. That would give me a coronary. Just wanted to let people know some letters were on the way--good luck everyone!

Hi Valerie...me too, on the alternate list for OHSU's accelerated program. I'm hopeful and thankful to still be in the running. In years past I read a number of alternates were part of the cohorts - so it's still a possiblity.

My main goal this Spring is to get throught this "application notification" process, and with some luck & my previous hard work - I may be starting nursing school this year...

If however it doesn't happen, to hold on - and figure out what experiences & improvements will ensure that I start next year!! My GPA was 3.5 from my previous degree, all As in my prereqs except a couple of Bs from an old statistics course from the 1980s :) and a B in BI 232 (2nd A&P - I think I was less than 10 pts away from an A!) ... so pretty high prereq. GPA...I'm a CNA now and working at a job I love at rehab. facility nearby since February...I'm learning alot and love it.

What else can I do but keep believing in myself...I'm not sure it's worth retaking those 2 Bs...I would rather volunteer and become billingual :)

I REALLY WANT TO START SCHOOL THIS YEAR THOUGH!!!!!!!

Wow, we are all soooooo close now!

JD & Valerie, good luck with your alternate statuses! I think it's quite an accomplishment in itself to be an alternate for OHSU so I give you guys some major kudos!

If I don't get in this year, I'm going to go ahead and get my CNA2 so I can try to land a job in a hospital somewhere.

I just got my CNA in December but I haven't worked yet because of my conflicting school schedule. Ideally, I would like to get into a hospital because of the greater chance of working so closely with the nurses and doctors. (Plus it may help get a job after graduation! :))

I may even volunteer if jobs are too hard to come by and work as a CNA until an opening comes up.

In the fall, I'll retake the 2 classes I have B's in. (Nutrition and Psy237 :smackingf)

So HOPEFULLY, some experience and a 4.0 pre req GPA will be enough to get me in if I don't get accepted this year.

I'm planning for the worst but hoping for the best!

Good luck everyone!!

Oh I forgot to ask....for those who have been through this process before.....

Do your denial/acceptance/Waitlist letters tell you your score? (the number of points you received?)

Good luck movin' on up, JD! Ginny, none of the places I applied do the score thing so I can't help with that but someone earlier asked if we could all post our "stats" so we could compare notes, so I guess I can do that.

I had a 3.9 GPA at the time of application with all the classes I have taken since I went back to school, this includes a Bi 101 that only counted for Linfield and 2 math classes needed only to get into Statistics. The only B I got was in Bi 232 (A&P2). My previous degree was in journalism, 3.8 GPA. I don't have a CNA nor any health work history, but I do volunteer respite care with Adventist Hospice and have a family member in hospice and have done lots of care there. I was a professional writer, so my essays were strong. Micro and Nutrition were in progress when I applied, but both are done now.

Congradulations on your UP entrance!! I am accepted into UP's 2012 spring cohort as well. I also just got an acceptance letter from Montana State University today. Waiting on Linfield and University of Miami now - I hate waiting! I wonder if it matters where your degree is from when you apply for work? If I go to Montana I will get out of college 6 months sooner because I would start in the fall vs spring, and a year earlier if I go to Miami. I did not apply to community colleges because I want a BSN so I can not give advise to those of you that applied there, other than 70% or more of people apply to CC for a fast track degree, therefor, they are very competitive. The 4 year colleges are less competitive and have alot less applicants.

Hey Guys,

I am on the waitlist at OHSU too. I applied to Penn State's accelerated nursing program and University's accelerated nursing program (11 mos long) and got in. I am from Portland and would like nothing more than to stay here. I have my degree in Biobehavioral Health, and am an EMT-B. I am still waiting on Linfield. Good luck to all of you!

Got my CCC Points letter today:) seems like they are working faster this year!! :)

So what did it say? It only gives your points? Anything else?

K

Got my points letter, too, from Clackamas. It gives you a breakdown of your points, and tells you what to do if you think their calculation is wrong. Nothing was mentioned about how many applicants or who will move onto the next step. My points were correct at 56. I have no discretionary points, so I know it is a long shot. Still have three more schools to hear from.
