Anyone work at St. Charles Medical Center, Bend?

Hi everyone,

I am an inner-city trauma nurse back in the northeast, and am thinking about relocating to the Bend area....(anyone see "Mercy" on TV :heartbeatlast night? Everything the doc said about NJ is true!)....it seems as if the only hospital in the area is St. Charles...any comments from anyone who's worked there, or is working there, particularly in the ICU? And is this a union shop? Thanks! Appreciate any feedback.

I don't work at St. Charles but am also interested in feedback from nurses who work there. How do you like working there? Do you feel it is a supportive environment for nurses who are new to the acute care setting? Any information would be greatly appreciated!:specs:

They are a 'union shop', part of the ONA. Do a web search, there is an ONA site for St. Charles. I have never worked there, but know people who have. General consensus is that it is a nice place to work, which is good since they are the biggest player in town. They also have a smaller hospital in Redmond. It seems like they have not had too many jobs posted since the recession hit, though.

I graduated from LPN school in Bend 1972! My first job was as the OLD St. Chas. Jobs are scarce all over Oregon (I'm looking to return to my home state). Bend is also very very popular place to live and is now called "Aspen West" housing is expensive, along with everything else and many locals have been run out due to cost of living. When I lived there it was a "small cow town" with a small ski resort.

Make sure you have a job before you move to Oregon. From what I gather job turn over is very low in the region and my LPN program is now an ADN program so I'm sure they'd hire locals over out of towners.

I wish you luck, cental and eastern Oregon has some of the most beautiful country in the USA.
