Thinking about moving to Eugune - Springfeild area

Hi everyone,
I am currently living in the Bay Area, CA and I am thinking about moving to the Eugune-Spingfild area this coming fall/winter or early 2008. I am currently a MA and going to take my certification to become a CMA soon. I am also taking classes to become a RN but all of the schools in CA have a lotto in order to get into the program. I have enrolled and have been accepted into Lane Community College. I was curious if anyone had any tips about that school, is it good, bad, ok, etc. I was also curious about the job situation since it is a small colege type of town. Wouldn't it be hard for a MA/CMA to get a job? I have already been a MA for 3yrs and have had a steady job in home health care as a MA for almost the same amount of time. Is there only one hospital there? Are there any Kaiser Hospitals in that area? Any other information would be greatly appriciated. Thanks

Wow, can't believe that you have not heard from anybody in Eugene/Springfield area yet. Lane CC is a good school, there are several CNA possibility positions around, and Eugene is the heart of Alternative Heaven, so I love it, even tho I don't live there any more. There are several long term care places, as well as state operated group homes, (MR/DD) where you would not have to have your certification as a nurses aide. Try the Oregon State site, and look for job opportunities in the area. Good luck. PM me if you have any other questions.

I went to LCC in 1993 and got my RRT there. It was (and still is) a excellent school. Eugene is a great town with a down to earth life style. SHMC is a good hospital to do your clinicals at too. I think you will be pleased there. The weather can be a downer at times due to rain, rain, rain..... but it is green and pretty. Best of luck and welcome to Oregon!!!!!

Thank you very much. I am glad to hear all of the great postings about LCC, I'm glad I made the right choice. Rain doesn't bother me, I actually like the rain. Funny thing since I'm from California and it doesn't rain all that much here.

LCC is a great school for all of your prenursing needs. However it's extremely hard to get into there program. We have two hospitals here. Sacred Heart Medical Center which is located downtown Eugene, and the new hospital Riverbend which is located in Springfield.

If your coming here to be a CNA/CMA you will have no problem finding jobs. anything in the nursing field is widely accepted anywhere that you go, and theres always a shortage of CNA's and nurses.

Good luck, and welcome to Oregon.
