OHSU and other PDX area applicants for 2009

I wanted to start a thread for those who are starting to apply to the local Portland nursing schools for 2009. Maybe state what school(s) you will be applying to and where you are in your process. I'm applying at OHSU OCNE and PCC. No need to state GPA or points or anything. I just mailed off my app to OHSU the other day, but still need to do my proctored essay. I sent the school the information for my proctor but have not heard anything yet. PCC will have apps available in December, so now I'm waiting for that. Good luck to everyone!

I'm applying to OHSU ABM program, the OHSU ABS program, and also to Linfield College. I don't plan to send in my application until I've viewed and reviewed it and I feel more sure of everything. As far as I can tell, it doesn't matter when you submit, as long as it is before the deadline.
I was waitlisted at OHSU for the ABM program last year. But I met with the head of the midwifery department recently who told me I was next in line (darnit!). So I feel somewhat encouraged, but still really nervous!!!

Best of luck to you with your applications!

Sorry for my ignorance, I know what an ABS is, but what is an ABM?

Accelerated Bachelors to Masters.
It is my goal to become a Nurse Midwife, and OHSU offers a program where you are accepted to the ABS and the nurse midwifery progams at the same time.

I will be applying to programs for the first time this year. I just finished my pre-reqs and will be applying to OHSU, MHCC, Clackamas CC, and I applied to Clark College at Washington State University in Vancouver for their Oct. 1st deadline. They said that the acceptance letters will be sent out about 8 weeks after the deadline so I am thinking mid to late November (definetly by thanksgiving). I have my fingers crossed. Although Clark is my least preferred out of all the schools I am applying to (because of distance), I will still be very grateful knowing that I am in somewhere no matter what. I am debating applying to PCC since it is a lottery and its not part of the ONCE yet so It's not a bridge to BSN at OHSU until 2010. Good luck to everyone.

Just one correction -- unless they have changed things, in the accelerated program you do not earn a BS. You are entitled to sit for the NCLEX, but you don't earn a degree (part of why you have to come in w/a Bachelors already)

Not a bridge to OHSU yet, but they do have a bridge to Linfield, plus you could still apply to bridge to OHSU even if going to PCC. I wouldn't count out the lottery, and good luck

Hi! Just wanted to join in. I've applied to the ABM program (was an alternate for midwifery last year as well), ABS, and will be applying to OCNE. I debated whether or not to apply to PCC... I just wasn't too excited about entering a lottery system. Good luck!!

I don't know your unique situation, but I feel that it would be prudent to also apply to the local CCs like MHCC or CCC. They are all part of OCNE, they bridge to OHSU for the last year to get your BSN, they let you sit for your boards and get your RN before that OHSU year, and their cost is unbeatable.

There is little reason not to apply, from what I've seen.

Just wanted to celebrate the fact that my OHSU applications have officially been submitted!

Now for the 3 months of nail biting ahead...
