so I just checked OHSU's website on their FAQ page and it says for the Standard BSN program, letters of notification go out June 1! HOLY COW that's a long wait!!! I'm about to go crazy waiting for the end of April lottery drawing at PCC!

While I find the lottery an odd way to accept students (being a school I would want the best and the brightest not the luck of the draw), with the new OCNE program, I will miss out on a lot of the previous medical field experience points. I have been in classes with people currently employed at hospitals, have a CNA or MA cert, things like that. So, even if I have a better GPA and a previous degree, they may get in before me based on the points. I figured I was willing to take a shot on the lottery this year. I'm not in a rush, other than a time limit on my A&P classes, which some schools limit to 5 years. I have until at least 2011.

The nail biting begins...

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Although I have experience in the healthcare field (physical therapy aide), it's not a job that some of the schools around here considered for extra points. I got into MHCC even though I was up against students that were CNAs and I didn't get the extra points like they did, I had very strong grades though. Like you, I have a previous degree as well. I got in on my first round of applications and I only applied to two schools (MHCC and PCC).

Thanks! That's good to know. I wish I could apply at some of the other schools like Linfield, MHCC or Clackamas, but they require a couple of other classes that PCC and OHSU don't require before applying such at Chem or the Nutrition class. We'll see. It's possible my hubby may be getting a new job that will take us to the East coast later this year, but the app deadlines are all due before we'll know our moving situation. So, if I don't get in and he gets a job, it's not a big deal anyway.

Just a note on Linfield and UofP. You don't have to have all of the additional requirements to apply, as long as you could complete them before starting the programs. They both do Fall and Spring start admission (from this application period) and you can note on your application when you would complete the additional classes you need. I needed 5 courses for Linfield and like 8 for UofP but I was still accepted into both of their Spring start programs. If you are aiming for a fall start, you would have spring and summer to finish your prerequisite courses, and if you start spring, you would have fall quarter as well. So if you think you can do it, go ahead and apply!!

I just sent in my applications to MHCC, CCC, and UP. (i actually drove and hand delivered them). I'm just waiting to hear back from them...Good luck to you all!! I didn't want to apply to OHSU, because if I get into one of the community colleges, i'd graduate from OHSU anyway, so what's the point of applying to OHSU and taking out all of those student loans. that's my reasoning anyway. Hope you all get in! (i hope I get in too)

I'm waiting to find out if I got an interview for the OHSU grad entry midwife program. Has anyone gotten an interview yet? They said the interviews are taking place Feb. 5-6, so there's not too much more time.

Ooh, good luck! I hope you hear something soon about the interviews. Keep us posted! I saw on my application status that OHSU received my essay (or statement of purpose). Now, I am totally freaking out about it because the type of word processing software I used I wasn't completely familiar with. The instructions said "single spaced". When I started, I thought it looked double spaced so I changed it to what I thought was single spaced and I think I may have done that wrong. I am worried it might have some effect on their decision, as if they may say "denied, she didn't follow the instructions". Can't June come quickly please???

No way Studentmom2007! If there was a problem with your essay they would have called or sent you something to let you know you were missing part of the application. Don't worry about that part.

Areawoman, I am in the same boat as you. Since I got that email about saving the two days in Feb I've been checking my email every hour and scraping the bottom of my mailbox. Still no word. I'm starting to get really nervous as those days approach! Let me know when you hear something.
Cheers.

I'm still waiting to hear about the grad entry midwifery program, too! Hopefully I'll see you on Feb. 5th or 6th! Good luck!
