Oregon has been hovering around 12-13% unemployment for a few months. We were firmly the 2nd highest unemployment rate in the country for several months and recently moved to #3 - not because the unemployment rate went down but because another State went up.
Jobs are scarce and many hospitals do have hiring freezes in that they are filling open positions only. New grad programs have been scaled back and the majority of (acute care) positions I've seen say either BSN preferred or experience required.
It's a tough place to be a nurse, especially a new nurse looking for a job right now but could change a year or 2 down the road.
