Re: New grads: hows the job hunt going?
I think they are just not hiring across the board (every dept) at Providence hospitals at least (externals and new grads). I hear the same with others facilities as well.
I am able to search our job postings availiable to internal applicants and there are a TON of jobs in the ER at St V's. Since I work there, I cant see what is being shown as availiable to external applicants. There are a few other jobs in other departments as well.
The summer usually brings low census at our facility. I think that is part of the reason for the hiring freeze. Another is that economic turn down that we are all hearing about and dealing with. We are getting called off of our shifts for low census. Not super terrible, but it is happening. The way our union negotiated the way the mandatory day off list works, I never move more that 7 places from the tippy top. I usually first to get the ax on night shift (for mandatory). I usually loose 4-8 or so hours a month.
I would rather sleep in a few hours every so often than have one of my newer hire friends get laid off. I am soooo glad no one is getting laid off at St V's.
