That's a lot of apps. I am really surprised that I got in. My wife found out today that she is waitlisted so we are hoping she can squeeze into one of those seats.

She will get in! A lot of folks will attend other school or decide not to start nursing school. It will be fun to have another married couple on campus along with me and my wife!

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has suggestions for me. I received my acceptance to Linfield in the mail today but it was for the regular BSN program, while I applied ONLY to the accelerated program. It just doesn't make sense for me to spend all the money or time when I can take the accelerated route. I called Linfield today and was very nice, but the lady was extremely rude and all she said was that it was their mistake and they can take me out of the BSN program and put me on the waitlist for the accelerated program.
The more I think about this, the more unfair it seems. I was never asked to even be considered for anything besides the accelerated program and now they will just put me on the bottom of the waitlist? My application won't even be reviewed to place me in my respective ranking? My application was very strong and I really thought I would get in. Or what if they didn't even consider me for the accelerated program because they thought I checked the box that said applying for all programs. If I decide to go on the waitlist (which I guess is my only option) I doubt I will get in because I'll be at the very bottom. I want to contact an actual admissions officer but can't find any contact information on the website. So, any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated.

First off congrats on getting accepted, there were over 600 applicants for this year. If you have options other than Linfield, weigh your pros and cons and make the best choice for your future goals. I will not get into the BSN vs ADN debate because I have my own opinion on that. Linfield is expensive, but so far I feel I have received a great education – fact is we all gripe about the cost.

I guess place yourself in the role of the person responding to admissions calls, they have probably fielded several hundred "why didn't I get in..." calls. Its not an easy job to do. In looking at your post you sated "I was never asked to even be considered for anything besides the accelerated program..." That probably elicited the "we must have made a mistake" response. To them it sounds like you do not want your position in the fall start. The fact of the matter is there are many on this thread that would be happy to take your spot. In fact there are over 450 applicants that didn't get in that would be happy to take your spot. Put your acceptance letter in perspective.

As for your standing all schools have set criteria to score applications. I am not privy to the scoring system. Regardless, the top students with a previous degree are offered a spot in the accelerated cohort. Those second degree applicants who do not make the cut are automatically slotted into a fall (possibly spring) start. That is why you got your acceptance letter. In addition these second degree students who are starting in fall or spring are also automatically waited listed for the accelerated program should someone decline an offer. So "placing you on a wait list" was a BS maneuver – you are already on a wait list. The person you spoke with may also be ignorant of the actual process.

Look at all of the people that got accepted, they are so happy to have received that acceptance letter. If you don't want to do the regular tract –*don't do it, starting nursing school with an angry attitude won't lead to anything good. There are many other options available for Nursing school.

I hope some people decline so your wife gets in too. Then you guys can be neurotic together.

Thanks for the information. I believe you misinterpreted my post, I'm not ungrateful or angry, I am just trying to figure out what happened, that is all. And I am in a hurry to do it because I know when I give up my spot, which I will, it will make someone on the waitlist very happy. And it is hard to be on a waitlist.
I wish you could see it from my perspective too though. I've been waiting and waiting and looking in the mailbox everyday and on thursday I got it! And it was a big packet which is usually a good sign

And then to open it and discover that I wouldn't graduate until May 2012, when I could be finished in Janurary 2011 with an accelerated program? And I'd be paying tuition all that time? It is disappointing for me and I did not understand how it happened. I can wait and reapply next year and still finish earlier and pay a lot less than if I took the option they gave me this year. And I have some other options to think about as well. It is really not the end of the world, I am only 22, but I would just like to have known more about the process from the webpage. It still seems weird that they would place me into something I didn't apply for.

Swimmer34, I can see where you are coming from and I can understand your concerns. I am currently in the Linfield program and will be graduating in May of 2010. I can certainly understand why you would want to do the accelerated program because it is so much cheaper. I sometimes regret coming here and having to pay so much, but I realize that I am so close to my goal that it does not matter much to me anymore. The school is great despite some fall backs but I am sure every school has positives and negatives! Good luck with whatever you decide!

I've been admitted to the Spring 2010 cohort. Apparently they did not accept my upper division physiology class so I have to retake the lower division one during the summer. I did ask Mindy to place me on the waitlist for Fall 2009 but she said there are about 40-50 students ahead of me. SAD.
