Congrats! I look forward to meeting you at orientation! NW Portland is nice, Im not sure what you want to spend on rent but it may be hard to find a place with a yard in that part of town for a reasonable price. NE Portland is affordable and bike / dog friendly. There are plenty of hip up and coming areas in NE, you can find a small house with a yard for around $1000. Another nice area is close in on the SE side. In my opinion something closer in then say 50th ave would be a good location. Public transportation is good in Portland and you may consider being near the MAX or a TriMet bus stop.

So can anyone recommend a nice area for housing? We are moving from out of state and are relatively unfamiliar with the area. We really liked the NW area, but are willing to commute a little ways if we have to. Oh yeah, we have an 8 month old lab puppy so it would be nice to find an area that is pet friendly. Thanks!
Congrats on getting into Linfield!

Portland was named #1 City for Dogs a couple of years ago – we love pups here. As for housing, the NW is very expensive, actually anything "close in" is kinda spendy. Suburbs are generally cheaper. West side is more expensive than the east side (east of the Willamette River). Hawthorne Blvd is kind of a fun area, but it is considered close in. We live off I-205 – about 11 miles from school. The commute can be fairly quick in the mornings but averages 25 min on most days. PM me if you need more information on particular areas you are looking at.

Congrats again!

My wife also applied to the regular BSN and she has not heard back either. When we first applied and received postcards from Linfield notifying us that our apps were received, I got mine about 2 weeks before hers arrived. It may be that they send out the ABSN letters before the regular BSN. Hang in there, it should come soon!

You are correct sir. ABSN acceptance letters go out first.

Hey, seriously, thanks for the tip! Are you also doing your ABSN? I am excited to start in June. I'm taking 17 credits of my final prereqs right now....would you say, just in general, that nursing school is harder than anything you've done? I'm kind of nervous and excited.

Yes, I'm Linfield's accelerated BSN program – just eight months left! How you feel is really natural, everyone feels that way before they start. Nursing school isn't hard so to speak. I mean the concepts are very straight forward and easy to comprehend. The big thing is the volume of material you cover and are expected and know. Make friends with everyone in your cohort. They are your support as you move through the program.

Thanks Barleynhops and LinfieldNursingGuy for the advice on different areas around Portland. The SE area sounds kind of cool and we liked it there when we visited a few years ago. I look forward to meeting you guys at the orientation.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know the stats about the applicant pool? How many applied? How many accepted, etc..?

Huffy- I was at the school today and they said unofficially roughly 600 people applied: 60 accepted for Summer start, 76 for Fall, 70 for Spring. So roughly a 3 people for every seat.
