IUON Graduates?

I want everyone to know that my issue with IUON has been resolved. I am transferring to a CCNE accredited school May 18th for my BSN. IUON will have more options for the BSN students in the fall. Best of luck to everyone, i guess it wasnt a bad decision after all.

I am so happy now and will tell you more about this new partner school once i settle in.

My daughter is going to start school there in May. Any information, good or bad, and most seems to be bad please explain why. I am going with her March 30th for a few days to check out the school, housing, and the Island. If there are any questions I should ask or areas I should be concerned about please let me know.

I graduated from IUON and one of its patner schools not too long ago. And I highly dont recommend IUON because of numerous reason. I strongly believe their program is not good enough to prepare you for the real world (US) nursing...its pretty unstable (or atleast was when i waz there in 2006)...I feel like i wasted my time at IUON..but i was able to learn alot at the partner school. that is where i waz prepared to take the nclex exam NOT AT IUON...according to me, program is weak! doesnt prepare you enough! lack of liason between student body and the administration leads to numerous unresolved student issued...Clinical portion at the island sucked! Nursing experience on the island was completely different compare to US nursing experience. I feel like they are after the $$. for instance. As a transfer student I had all the courses required to attain a BA, but i was forced to 14 extra credits both semesters because i need to get 24 credit (from IUON) in order to transfer...Not mentioning the fact that food is not so fresh at the super market, but the island is defnitely pretty...
sorry for the negative comments...but thats how i feel as an IUON graduate...may be they have gotten better since 2006 (BUT I REALLY DOUBT IT)

I have been accepted to Linfield College in Portland Oregon and IUON in St. Kitts both starting in Sept. I prefer attending IUON but I want to gather more information. Can anyone give me any information about the IUON program (good or bad news). If there are any questions I should ask or things I should be concerned about please let me know.

I have recently been accepted to the IUON in St. Kitts and Linfield College in Portland Oregon. I am leaning more towards attending the St. Kitts program but don't know enough about it. I hear good and bad things. Please share your knowledge and insight of this program, especially if you are a graduate of the IUON program. I am hoping to attend the September 2008 BSN program.

ccc2008, did you decided to go to IUON? I just got accepted and I am debating whether or not to attend. What made your decision either way? I would love to hear about the information that you collected. There are so many mixed feelings about it, that it has left me more confused than I was before

I went to St. Kitts for a semester IUON nursing. Yes it would've cost me well over 100,000 in debt. I thought about going back a second semester and I chose not to simply because of the debt and cost of living. You would literaly need $2000 a month just to live in addition to your 100 thousand dollar debt. After attending one sem at St. Kitss, I owe Sally Mae $10,000. I too was desperate to get into nursing school and I found other options.
Today I'm in an accredited nursing school in the Philippines(95%NCLEX pass rate) and will be graduating March 2009 with a BSN. My over all tuition for a bachelors degree is a total of 10,000 dollars. Thats the same amount of money I spent at St Kitts in one semester. If I did decided to grind it out at St. Kitts, I still would've graduated with only an ADN on the same date March 2009. In addition I would've had a crazy debt on my hands. Not worth it!! Yes there are other options..Go to the Philippines and Yes everything is taught in English. By the way all the books I"m using here in the Philippines were the same books I was using at St. Kitts. My patient ratio at St. Kitts was 1:1. In the Philippines it's 1:20. I'm am happy and getting exposure to prepare me for NCLEX !!!!!! - Macky

Here's the thing:

Yes many students drop out. Why? They aren't prepared for school. They stay out all night drinking and screw around, and then they're ****** off that they weren't prepared for the tests.
Yes the clinicals are different; it's a different country! That is the major problem I see with most students here (yes I go to IUON). They expect St. Kitts to be the United States or Canada. It's not and it never will be. If they would get the hell over themselves and drop some of the famous north american ego, things would be much better.
Yes, there are some issues; it's a new school, they're still working everything out.
I have absolutly no regret about coming here. It's a wonderful island with some of the friendliest people I've ever met inhabiting it.
I guess my point would be: If you are serious and ready to study hard and do a lot of self-learning and self-discovery, then by all means come here. If you plan on treating St. Kitts as a vacation and plan on drinking yourself stupid, then don't bother. You'll only waste your time and money.
