In a Pickle!

Hi! I'm new to the forum. I am in a real pickle.

I am just beginning to work on pre-reqs for a nursing program but looking at my options. I've been researching and it looks like the LPN to RN route might be the best option for me. So my question...

I've looked at PCC but 100 out of 800 accepted on a lottery seems very overwhelming. Clark has a great program but there are a lot of pre-reqs and the program is very competetive. I'm looking at Pioneer Pacific. They have a new LPN program and have said that if I am not accepted I can go into the MA program then have first priority in applying towards the LPN program. Is this a scam or a feasible way to get in? I will pay the extra money if I can be guaranteed entrance. They have also told me that they currently have students who are in RN programs after completing their LPN there.

I saw that Concorde and Apollo also have initial approval from the state on their LPN programs but haven't heard great things about these colleges.

Why is it so hard to get into nursing school when there is such a shortage?
