Difference between F&N 225, and F&N 270

I only need to take 225, but there is only 1 class available. I have heard that 270 is a pretty difficult class. Any input on both would be appreciated. I will be taking F&N at PCC. Thank you

If you are trying to get into nursing at PCC take FN 270. Other colleges may only require FN 225, but PCC requires FN 270. I learned because I did all my pre-reqs at CCC and they only offered 225, I got into the program at PCC and had to take a bridge class FN 225X, to qualify for the 270 class. PCC also requires Psy 214, Biomedical ethics, and patho, which other colleges do not.

The only difference is that 270 has clinical application of nutrition involving diabetes, etc. If you have already taken A&P you will not be tripped up by the course. I think it is all the processing of different nutirents that get people like the differences between fats, protein, and carbohydrates. There is a lot of information in the class but definitely manageable because (at least at PCC) the midterm is open note and the final is take home.

I am actually not going to nursing school at PCC, so I don't need 270, only 225. I'm applying to OCNE schools. lilikoi, I as curious who your teacher was or if you have any info. on the teachers. I know that it is only offered at Sylvania. I use rate my professor, but it was no help. Thank you very much!!! I will be taking A&P3 at the same time, but it has been 12 years since high school health.

I took Martha Hirsch. She's a bit old and frazzled but I found the course to be pretty easy. The other option (Jodi Taylor) has a reputation for being a bit psycho. I applied to OCNE programs as well and I believe most will accept either class won't they? I would double check because I would be surprised if they wouldn't accept 270 since it is more relevant to nursing than 225.

And don't worry about doing the two classes together, it can be done. I took A&P 3 and Micro together and although I wanted to shoot myself sometimes, I made it through, and when I last took any Biology or Health it was 25 years ago. Just stay focused and on top of things and you'll be fine and know its only 10 weeks!!!
