Agency nursing in Oregon

Hi all,
I'm a new nurse...been on the job for a year now working mainly in an ICU and a step down unit with telemetry experience. I float some to surgical and medical floors but was hired to become an ICU nurse which I love.

I'm considering trying some agency work and wonder if anyone out there in Oregon has advice for me as far as agencies to approach. I've heard of Favorites but when I've tried to search that name I'm not coming up with any links. Thanks!

Some of the nursing agencies here in Oregon are: Maxim, this is the one we use the most often where I work. Nursefinders, I have a friend who works for Nursefinders and loves it. Integrated, and Interim are two others. You should be able to find them under the yellow pages of your phone book and online.
I hope this helps.

I work for Maxum and Intelistaff and have had no problems. Days are harder to come by (of course) Evenings are something I do a lot of as well (11a-11p ect.) I do get cancelled a fair amount which is a serious pain...however, I rarely do nights so that's a large part of the problem. I've heard nothing good about Favorite. I don't work for them so I can't personally speak bad about them, but several nurses who do have only negative things to say. Try MSN or Maxum. If you're thinking of registry full time you'll need two agencies...believe me!

Is 11a-11p a common shift 'round these parts?

Very common at all the Legacy hospitals. 10a-10p, 2 or 3p to 2/3a is also not unheard of. I've never worked Providence but I've heard they have those unusual shifts also...

I work for NurseFinders in Portland & really enjoy it. Since my recent experience had been LTC (>12 months) they can only send me out to that and similar (group care homes), but it works for me. I really enjoy being able to "set" my own hours & days, tho of course you run into dry spells with very little work, and some facilities are good at cancelling. If you were, say, a single parent I would say probably not (d/t no guaranteed income), but it is just my husband & me and it works.
