What is your schedule like in a day surgery center

I currently work in a day surgery center where we call in at 6 pm to find out our schedule for the next day. Does everyone else do this? It makes it really hard to plan anything, and our boss hates when we say we need to be off at a certain time for an appt. I would like to know how others are scheduled and how you manage to make plans.

My hubby works at an ambulatory surgery center. He gets his schedule on Friday for the following week. However, his "schedule" is pretty loose because they make changes frequently to when he comes in and if they flex him off due to lack of surgeries. It does make it frustrating for appointments and other plans, but his workplace and co-workers are pretty accommodating of appointments if he gives a lot of notice and because he's very flexible with his schedule and to his co-workers if they need to change their schedule.

M-F 7-3:30. Late shift a week at a time every 6 weeks 10-6:30. A week of call every 6 weeks.

hired for 40hrs/wk...Worked about 36hrs in a 2 week payperiod..

get a text the night before. I can start anywhere from 5:30am -8:30am.

It's a rare day if I work 8 hrs straight.

Beyond frustrated.

I've also worked at an outpatient surgery center. I actually loved it but we rarely got 40 hrs/week. We were owned by a hospital and could float over there and help out. If you are wanting more hours you should look elsewhere. Good luck;)

Thats par for the course. Outpatient surgery is like being on call 5 days a week every week. You never know if you can do dinner and a movie or just dinner or just go home and go to bed because you have to be back in 8 hours. No longer in surgery for me!
