What attracted you to OR nursing?

Hi everyone,

I was just wondering what attracted you to OR nursing, and what you really enjoy about your job.

I have been a floor RN for 1 1/2 yrs (currently working neurosurg/neurology,) and am really contemplating getting more behind the scenes, possible training to OR in the future. I did enjoy my OR shadow experience as a student, it was very interesting, and I enjoyed the atmosphere of the theatre

Just a note: I don't mind floor nursing, but I am starting to feel a bit burnt out. I like: taking care of patients, assessing, learning, pt. teaching, I all also enjoy the occasional adrenaline and quick thinking of emergency situations (partially why I originally thought about ICU/ED nursing).
But I am really starting to feel very drained with some of the intense families (challenging you (the team), complaining about little/miniscule things that are not that important, needing alot of your attention when you are very busy with "sick patients," people having difficulty coping)--and having multple patient rooms like this. Which makes me wonder if the ICU/ED, might not be for me. I am a very kind & compassionate person and usually very good with families, but sometimes I feel like maybe I would be suited for something else, to keep my sanity.

Please let me know why you went into the OR, and what you really like about it and don't like....
