Shift Shadowing at a Plastic Sugery Clinic

  1. Hi,

I just had a job interview today at a private plastic surgery centre and they want me to come in for a shadow shift on Monday. I would follow a patient through pre-op, surgery (a face-lift) and possibly post-op, working in the scrub role primarily.

I have just received a certificate in peri-operative nursing and am currently working at one of the largest operating rooms in Canada. I've only been in the OR for a couple months though so I'm still new but I have been spending the majority of my time in plastic surgery.

My question is what should I prepare myself for on Monday, the Dr. might want to see my cutting skills, I'm not sure what that exactly means.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I'm not sure what cutting skills mean either but I this is your first job as a peri operative nurse, I would imagine they don't except you to know everything but my advice to you would be to brush up on ur anatomy, especially if you will be scrubbing the case. I can't imagine they would be using bovie for a facelift but watch out for fire safety since the face is a high O2 area. Good luck!!!

I think he meant cutting suture. That's the only thing I can think of.
