Questions re openheart scrub

  1. Hello ..
I am new to this site. Our team is looking for info on scrub products that are being used in the openheart suite. Our Surgeon is unhappy with the products we have to offer and what he wants to use is a product that does not pass our Infection Control standards. Any suggestions?

    MelvaL,

your post was moved to a new forum (Operative Nursing).

I have a small favor to ask. It would be good to see your introduction of yourself in the Introduction and Greetings forum. Let us get to know you as you have gotten to know us. It doesn't have to be much. We as members enjoy knowing who has joined our ranks.

    Best wishes.

What does he want to use? There are many great scrub solutions to choose from including waterless.

I am a openheart scrub rn and we use a solution called avaguard instead of scrubbing, it is sort of like lotion and you have a specific way to apply it but it is simple and supposed to be 99.9% effective against any bacteria

I use the Avaguard also but some of the nurses don't like the idea of having a "coating" on their skin. This waterless "scrub" needs to be washed off after the case and it does collect under the fingernails.
We also have Triseptin which claims to be a brushless "short" duration prep but it makes me break out. I think its the ammonia & zinc it contains. Brushes containing CHG, Hibiclens & Betadine round out our supply. To my knowledge, these are all approved by AORN but infection control can be another matter.
