Questions for OR nurses/techs....

by spejsa

I am new to coding and am working in a hospital doing coding for same day surgeries, cath lab cases, and others. I want to know if OR nurses could tell me what supplies are typically used for open hearts, heart caths, TKA's, T&A's, as well as any others anybody can think of. I am trying to be sure that I code everything that would be used but don't know all of the names so I can't seem to find the items in the document that I find them in (to code)... Thanks!

You might try requesting a preference card/pick sheet. These are lists specific to each surgeon and for each case. They will have all the supplies needed. Depending on if your hospital charges by exception, there may be a charge list that has everything needed for the "usual" case as well.
