Hi there,

I'm an RN moving into Operating Rooms next month and wish to purchase a text book that I can study before I start the position and will help throughout my time there.

Are there any OR Nursing text books that OR nurses recommend.?

The bible of OR textbooks is Alexanders. This is the text used to teach is OR courses, here in Canada. Also, a perioperative workbook with minitests(and answers) is great. I completed one before my move to the OR last summer. I also suggest you get a copy of the standards. Best of luck to you in your big move.

I also say Alexander's Care of the Patient in Surgery should be number one on your list.

Also get a copy of AORN's Recommended Practices. This will help out with understanding the standards of care to which we should be accountable to.

Scott.

Thanks for your recommendations.

I have done a price and availability for 'Alexander's' at my local medical book store and will hopefully buy it shortly.

Again, thanks.

Alexander's Care of the Patient in Surgery is an excellent resource. There is also a book called Surgical Instrumentation that has pictures of all the varied surgical instruments if you wish to do that.
