Seems as though there are new products coming from vendors every month. It's up to the Operating Room Staff and Surgeons to decide whether we want to use their products in our future.

What new products have recently come across in your operating room?

Ever heard of Vocera? I had this once at a hospital that I worked at in Sacramento. It was similar to a communication device in Star Trek, except it was more up to date with the times of today. We were able to call someone even when we're scrubber in the sterile field. Isn't that amazing?

The OR I used to work in had the voceras..loved them!! I worked in a large OR( 27 rooms), so it was a great way to communicate without using the overhead pager. I now work in a smaller OR..but could still use the vocera!!

Specializes in Peds OR as RN, Peds ENT as NP.

We have vocera. Or should I say my facility has Vocera? There are so expensive that there is a waiting list. Hopefully by my year anniversary we will all have them. My favorite features are the"Beam me up Scotty" (I'm peds OR) and the locate feature. We always know if someone is hiding ;). It is also very helpful when you are having IV trouble or that gray area before actually pushing the code button and you need other attending anesthesia stat.
