Nursing Student question

Hi, I'm currently doing my pre-req's right now. I was wondering what exactly an OR nurse does. I know you assist the surgeon but I'm wondering if someone could give me more detail, like do you get to do anything with the surgery itself or if your just there to monitor the patient and be there if the surgeon needs anything.

    I appreciate any information.

I have ben in the OR for 25 yers and I scrub and circulate. I am the helping hands so to speak. Surgeons generally do not get another MD to assist because it doesn't pay. The surgeon in turn needs the help of an experienced OR nurse to help him. I have helped from major vascular to ortho to general surgeries. I feel I can give them the best help this side of another surgeon. The only thing I can't do legally is tie suture, I do everything else. Mike

I believe the AORN (association of OR nurses) has a website that offers good descriptions. Try
