NPs in OR?

by mich321

I am a med-surg nurse. I have noticed that many of the surgeons have PAs that assist with surgeries and round on post-op patients. I am just curious if NPs ever work in this role.....I haven't noticed any at the hospital where I work.

I've never seen NP's do it, it's usually a PA. Lots of docs have RNFA's but of course they don't round on their patients.

We have half and half PAs and CRNPs who work with our surgeons in the OR. One of our general surgery groups also has an NP who does discharges/occassional consults.

Two of our CT surgeons have NP's who assist in the OR and round on patients. A couple of the ortho docs have NP's who assist in surgery, but I'm not sure if they round on patients. We also have several surgeons who use PA's. I don't know if it's 50/50 but it's close.

Thanks for your replies. I might be interested in pursuing that someday!
