LTC/home health nurse looking to get into OR!

  1. Hi all,

I have been working as an RN for 2 years and any nursing specific experience I have is in rehab/LTC and home health, which I love, but I am looking to broaden my skills. When I was in school, I worked at a hospital in the central sterile dept, so I know my instrumentation pretty well as well as the principles of sterility and have a minimum knowledge of the scrub/circulator roles in the OR. This was always the area of nursing I wanted to go into, but being in a rural area with a plethora of nursing grads being cranked out, I couldn't exactly afford to be picky. I'm grateful for the experiences I have had and the knowledge and skills I've acquired will help me in any nursing speciality, but any key on HOW to break into the OR or even a ambulatory surgery center would be much appreciated.
