Labor & delivery scrub tech... What do they do??

Hello all!

What would a scrub tech on a labor & delivery unit do? The job description I was looking at said they would scrub in on surgeries (like c-sections), obviously, but what exactly do they do to help out?

Thank you so much & sorry if this has been asked... I looked, but couldn't find the info I was looking for!

Are you a CST? If so, you'll find the job more suited for a PCA. The only surgery you'll scrub in on will be C-Sections, the rest will be either lady partsl deliveries or stocking supplies. We call these positions "retiring gigs" because there is no challenge to it. I worked as one during nursing school, because a weekend scrub tech job is hard to find. If you are a new graduate CST, don't do it because it will pigeonhole you and it'll be tough to get into the main OR later. If you need the employment, take it and continue applying to main ORs. Thanks for your reply! I am actually a PCA right now while in nursing school. I was looking into it though because I have an interest in labor & delivery and thought it might be a good way and good experience for breaking into the specialty...

Nurses like myself woul advocte for someon with c-c-section scrub experience to get hired into the unit. I hate scrubbing I get woozy with that mask on
