i must say that every time we have a very sick patient, for example, someone who came from ICU, it just scares the crap out of me.
i feel nervous and i panic inside. this makes me think unclear and people can see it.
is this normal?
my previous nurse experience was all in a nursing home, so all the monitors, drains, even the iv pump are all new to me.
*sigh* days like this makes me think i am a useless nurse.

All Rights Reserved. - Dec 28, '12 by TakeTwoAspirinWhy don't you take the initiative and ask your supervisor if you can arrange for an OR in-service from the nursing educator from the ICU to come and go through some of the basics of the equipment and monitors that patients are transported with. You can bet your booty that if you are confused by some of this stuff, you are not alone. You really do have to be proactive in learning what you need to know to become proficient and competent. If an in-service cannot be arranged, I would ask if I could spent a couple of hours with a nurse in the ICU to get familiar with the equipment.
