Some of our physicians use CST-FAs and RNFAs. One of my techs recently reported a CST-FA operating a drill and placing hardware while the physician held the bone in proper alignment. I would think complex fractures requiring this level of skill would be best served with another physician as an assistant.
What are your thoughts on the FA role in the OR? How much delegation is appropriate to an unlicensed assistive personnel? By laws/ rules and regs do not provide direction... Although it is currently under review.

I'm a scrub tech and we can do tho ha line that I we are under physician orders to. If he is holding the bone or the drill guide, we can do the drilling. It's not a big deal.
