Hello, I am from Texarkana, TX and I start in June. Please e-mail me on my walden web site. Virginia Missildine

Alright you all. Class is in session. Excited for the challenge. Wish you all well this quarter ;-)

I live in Wichita, KS and just started the FNP program this June. I'm taking Policy and Advocacy and and Foundations for Graduate studies. So far it doesn't seem too bad, lots of work but not a lot different then the program I was in before for a MSN nurse educator track. I think I'm nervous because there seems to be some negativity regarding Walden and their program. I've done a lot of reading and looked at a what a lot of people are saying about the program and I still don't know what to think. After participating in a conference call with one of my instructors I can say I don't feel Walden is just passing out degrees to anyone who gives them money. I hope in the end, all the money and the studying is worth it! Good luck with everything to all of you. I'll take any advice I can get about classes and about studying. I'm currently only prn at work so that helps, but I also am full time mom of 3.

HI I will be starting Walden NP program on Sept 4 of this year. Can any of you that has already been in the program share your experience with me? I am terribly nervous.

People are going to talk about any online for profit program, most of it is out of academic bigotry, and sheer ignorance. I know many nurses who graduated from online universities who hold very lucrative positions, and some who are even nursing instructors. As long as Walden us nationally accredited you will be allowed to sit for the state boards of most states, and receive your license. The best thing to do is learn all you can learn, and be the best practitioner you can be and let everyone have their opinions. When you are practicing as an FNP no one will care where you went to school or even ask most likely.

I have been in the program since Sept. 2012. It is very comprehensive and time consuming, with a strong infuses on research and writing. I have written well over 200 papers and discussion assignments at this point, but I have managed to maintain a 4.0 so far. I am taking Advanced Pharmacology this summer, and will start practicum in September. I will graduate in Feb of 2014 if all goes as planned. This school is doable, but it is not easy, on the contrary you will spend around 15 to 20 hours per week on each class. I'm not trying to scare you, just telling you what the reality is. Bone up on APA format, and learn how to research if you don't already and you will be fine as long as you make the commitment to the program that is deserves....Good Luck!

Hi all,

Anyone from California currently enrolled with Walden's online NP program? Does anybody know if students from California can sit on the California boards? Thank You!

Thanks Mark,

You have been very helpful. I have read all of your posts and they have been very enlightening. However, All I can say is wow about the 200 papers. I am ok with research but just don't like to do it and my typing skills are awful, but I have made it through my BSN program and it required a lot of writing as well. I have been trying to find an advanced pharmacology course elsewhere so that I can cut back on my tuition. That is one of my main concerns , even with the student loan I will have to have more funds. Congrats you are almost done. wish you the best. How is the clinical process going so far I mean as far as set up is going? By the way I am from a small little town called Ruleville in MS. I start class on Sept 4.

I agree mark has been great help.

Does anyone know how clinicals are done ? Is it also two classes/practicums per quarter if so are they allowed to be combined ? Will you have to out 36 hours in a week in order to complete hour requirement ?

The application process for the practicums has been a little cumbersome. The hardest part for me was getting the affiliation agreements hashed out with some of the larger facilities. Smaller organizations are much more streamlined. You can petition to take 2 practicums peer quarter as I have, but that will put you in the clinic 3 to 4 days per week each quarter. You might be surprised how much money is available through the government for graduate school. I take out enough to pay for school and have some extra money to help with expenses while I am only working part time.

I shouldn't have a problem getting 36 hours in for clinical a week. I hope to be able to take two classes at a time when I get started in September. How is the pharmacology course going. That may be the only one I will take alone. My math skills haven't been utilized in a while.
